If I was to ask you how many people work at Parents’ Voice HQ, what would you guess? Three? Six? Ten?
Well the real number is two. Two people to work with our thousands of members. Two people to work to stem the tide of junk food marketing and help our kids grow up in healthy, active, environments.
I have been in the lucky position of working, for almost two years, with Angela, our communications and public relations guru.
Angela originally hailed from Northern Ireland, moving across the world with her husband and two children to ‘sunnier’ Melbourne. She joined the Parents’ Voice (then The Parents’ Jury) team late in 2011 and instantly made a mark with her creative outlook and spectacular sub editing skills. She made sure our media work packed a punch (including writing this piece for Essential Kids about McDonald’s and junior sport), we couldn’t have done without her during our rebrand last year and she kept this blog going. Angela was an essential part of the Parents’ Voice family.
Unfortunately the time has come to say farewell, as Angela leaves for bigger and brighter things. I will personally miss her humour around the office and her enthusiasm for the Great British Sewing Bee!
While I’m sad to see Angela go, her departure leaves us with a position vacant. We’re looking for a new communications officer. In short the 3 day a week position works on our media, general and digital communications, assists with recruiting and engaging members and provides support to me and our Steering Committee. Hours can be worked over more than 3 days to allow for balance with caring, studying or life commitments.
If you are interested in the role, take a look at the position description and submit your resume and cover letter to recruitment@diabetesvic.org.au by COB Friday 8 July 2016.
