Hi it’s Emily here, I joined Diabetes Victoria in 2019 as a Health Promotion Officer in the Prevention and Health Promotion team working on the type 2 diabetes prevention at the Life! program and I have also had the opportunity to work in the Education Services team and most recently Parents’ Voice.
I am excited to be working with Parents’ Voice as it allows me to work on projects that support healthy food and physical activity environments for kids, which is something that I’m very passionate about.
My passion for healthy eating started from a young age growing up on a dairy farm just outside of Ballarat. We would spend many hours in the veggie patch planting and learning about seasonal produce. Now living in Melbourne, I am always enthusiastic about finding fresh produce markets in my local area.
Physical activity has also been an important part of my life growing up playing tennis and running for clubs. Now working in health promotion, I have a real interest in finding ways that families can be active for free, because being fit and healthy doesn’t have to cost money to be fun.
I am looking forward to working with Parents’ Voice to improve the food and physical activity environments of Australian children. I have been given a couple of cool projects to work on including mapping Victoria’s healthy school canteen policies and an active walking and cycling project, so keep any eye out for the launch of these projects!
